Bloomberg taps Tse to cover activists

Matthew Monks, team leader for U.S. deals coverage at Bloomberg News, sent out the following on Friday:

We are super psyched to announce that Crystal Tse will be taking over as the Bloomberg Deals activism reporter in the US. It’s a big job and Crystal is more than up for it, having broken news on everything from IPOs to SPACS, retail and consumer M&A to finance in the US and Asia since joining us as an intern almost seven years ago.

During that time, she was out front of some of the biggest and most high-profile IPOs on her beat, including scoops on the listings of Sweetgreen, Affirm, Rent the Runway, Toast, Robinhood, Nubank and many others. Crystal was also early in focusing on SPACs, which was critical to enabling us to dominate coverage of that sector during the blank-check company boom, including breaking just about every deal involving a Chamath Palihapitiya vehicle.

She’s also also been all over the breakup of Credit Suisse and was first to report on the Swiss bank’s plans to resurrect the First Boston name as part of the spinoff of its investment bank.

Activism is one of the most high-profile and competitive beats in the newsroom, with investors increasingly setting their sights on big targets like Disney and Salesforce. Given her experience and track record, we’re confident that Crystal will beat the competition on the biggest situations, just like she did on ECM.

As she takes on her new responsibilities, Crystal will also continue covering consumer and retail M&A. We’ll also be searching for a new IPO reporter soon. Please join me in congratulating her on her new role.
